Universities in Canada |
Universities in Canada are public institutions. Each province is responsible for the education of its citizens. The quality of education is high and graduates from these universities are held in high regard in the international arena. Universities in Canada are those institutes which offer bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degree.
The Association of University and Colleges of Canada is an umbrella organization composed of all the universities. Starting from the Universite Laval which was set up in 1663 to the First Nations University which opened in 2003, there are around 85 universities in the country. Due to the high quality of education provided at this institute, Canada can proudly claim to be the nation with the highest number of university graduates among the workforce, when compared with other G7 nations.
Government funding, both provincial and federal are granted to each of these institutes to go towards tuition and research. 13 of the universities have formed The Group of 13 in order to facilitate inter-university co-operation in research and to attain higher standards.
